Privacy policy
Updated October 13, 2026. The short version is on Your data: I keep little and never sell it.
- Who I am
- I'm Ian Tarter, and I run My Offset as one person, not a company. Questions about your data go to iantarter.com.
- What I collect
- There are no accounts yet, so I have no name, email or password. I never keep how much you use anything: the plan you build and every count are saved only in your own browser. If you give, see below for what I receive. To guess your state, my host (Cloudflare) reads the location of your internet connection on each visit; I use it for that page and don't save it. Cloudflare keeps standard request logs for security, which I don't use for anything else. I use no analytics, ads or tracking cookies.
- Files and keys you add
- A data export you add is read in your browser and never sent to me. An API key you paste goes through my server once, to ask OpenAI or Anthropic for your usage totals, which come straight back to your browser; I never save or log the key or the totals.
- When you give
- You pay My Offset once, on Stripe's checkout page. Stripe takes your card details under its own privacy policy; I never see them. Stripe tells my server the amount paid and the name and email you gave it. I pass your name and email to Pledge, a nonprofit giving platform, with each charity's gift, so Pledge records it in your name. I keep what each charity was given and Pledge's reply to each gift, which may include your name and email, so a gift that fails can be tried again. Your browser keeps a note of what you gave and when, so checkout can show it.
- Gifts
- If you give someone an offset, I keep the item, the two names and the note you type, so the gift's link can show them. Only someone with that link can see it. I don't email or contact the person you give it to.
- Who's offsetting
- Only if you tick "List me publicly" (a gift's recipient decides for themselves). To check your gifts, your browser sends the amounts on your plan with your birth year and state; I work out the gifts from them and keep none of it. I keep the name you pick, which items your checkout or gift offset and when, and the gifts it asked of each charity, so the list can check they were confirmed. Items you use none of count as offset, so your browser also sends their names, like "AI video", and updates them when that changes; never how much you use of anything. The list shows the name and the badges, never amounts or email. A secret kept in your browser lets you rename or leave; leaving deletes all of it.
- Who I share it with
- No one, except the companies that make the service run: my host, and Stripe and Pledge for payments, each only for its own job. I will never sell your data or share it for advertising.
- Deleting your data
- Your data has a button that clears this browser. You can ask me to delete your gift records too, except what the law or Stripe or Pledge requires for tax receipts.
- Children
- The site isn't meant for children under 13, and only adults can give.
- Changes
- If this policy changes, the date at the top changes, and anything that collects more than before will be announced on the home page first.
